The vineyards of Pouilly Fumé and Pouilly-sur-Loire extend across 7 town; Pouilly-sur-Loire, Tracy-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain, Mesves-sur-Loire, Saint-Laurent, Saint-Martin and Garchy. It covers 1,372 hectares, including 1,345 hectares devoted to Sauvignon Blanc and 27 hectares to Chasselas. It obtained its AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, French for Protected Designation of Origin in English) in 1937.
Here, we can find limestone from the Barrois and Villiers, marl containing small oysters from the Kimmeridgian or clay-limestone and flinty clay.
The climate is temperate and tends to be continental.
Thanks to the distinctive soils of this part of the Loire Valley, the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Pouilly Fumé wine offers you a great diversity of vintages whose delicate aromatic and gustatory composition is renowned in France and abroad.
It is within this vineyard that Domaine Champeau has had the pleasure of sharing with you its passion for wine since 1942. We are a 21-hectare family vineyard (1.5 hectares in Chasselas to produce Pouilly-sur-Loire and 19.5 hectares in Sauvignon Blanc to produce Pouilly Fumé) located in the town of Saint-Andelain.
